Retro Nintendo Collection

Starting A Retro Nintendo Collection

Retro gaming right now is bigger than it has ever been. The Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo right now are two of the most popular retro systems to collect for. And right now we are going to give you guys a few tips, thoughts and general information about starting a retro Nintendo collection.

Real Console Or Clone Console?

Nothing can quite compare to having a real Nintendo Entertainment System or Super Nintendo System, but the original NES can be very temperamental and the Super Nintendo is prone to discoloration giving it a weird look. One way to combat this is to have the original consoles in your collection, but have them as collector’s items. You can then buy a retro due system or another Nintendo clone to play your games on. These systems more often than not are two in one so they also save on space.

Gaming Icons Aplenty

Super Mario, The Legend Of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Metroid, Castlevania, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Kirby and the list goes on and on. One of the main reasons people want a dedicated Nintendo collection is that no other gaming company can boast the same amount of classic first party games. Most of these characters got their start on the NES and then would see new generation of 16-bit games on the Super Nintendo.

Do Not Always Pay Premium Price For Games

Nintendo collecting is white hot right now and because of that if you are going to be buying your games on sites like EBay then you can expect to pay a hefty price. But the good news is that if you shop around at flea markets and swap meets and check local garage sales you are bound to find some Nintendo games. Many of the big name titles like Mario, Donkey Kong and Street Fighter were mass produced so you can pick them up for a couple of bucks. Only pay the premium prices if you absolutely have to.

Be Realistic About Boxed Games

Boxed Nintendo games (especially Super Nintendo Games) can be sometimes two or three times as much as a loose cartridge. Nintendo used cardboard boxes for their games so father time has given many of them a real beating over the years. So if you want a mint in box game then you are going to have to pay up for it. Collecting loose games is fine, but there are some who only want the complete package. That is fine, but you have to come to terms with the fact you are going to pay for it.

Get A Retro TV

HDTV is amazing, but it sure as heck does not like old school video game systems. HDTV’s can make the best looking Super Nintendo games look jaggy and ugly so go out there and get yourself a nice old school TV. People these days do not want these TV’s so in many cases you can pay next to nothing for them as you are willing to go and pick them up.

Enjoy It!!!!!

Many collectors get obsessed with the hunt for the games rather than buying them to play. They want that copy of A Link To The Past on Super Nintendo to put on their shelf and that is fine, but so many of these games are just so much fun so make sure you also take the time to play them as well as collecting them.
